"Quail Thread-Hatching, Mutations, and everything quail related!!!"

Have not posted here in a very long time....I am searching for ideas on quail housing. I raise rabbits so have lots of different cages. I also would need ideas on which breed is easiest to maintain and care for. They will be raised outside. Any and all help and ideas would and is much appreciated. Thank You.

hi clucky,
for my layer flock of 6 jumbo cotunix i bought the I-CRATE collapsible dog cage in medium for $55 at my local feed. comes with the divider and removable bottom tray and you can separate birds/males. i bought 1/2" coop wire and made a poop-floor out of it above the tray. theres a billion things out there now but this was a fast and sensible buy for a newbie, and my results payed off! good luck there!

so whats is everyone doing and hows your quails?

im halfway thru my second batch of 1 dozen jumbo coturnix. im using hova bator 1602n with universal auto turner and fan. this time i avoid temptation to screw with the temp dial and less unecessary opening of the bator. im holding a mostly steady 99.5-99.8 with 45-50 humidity.

What type of incubator is best for quail. I made my own, but I need a turner!!! :barnie I don't want to spend too much, but what does everybody use? I'm on day 8 with 33 Jumbo Pharaoh & either Tibetan or Cinnamon.

if you dont know how to build a bator or dont have the time ,just buy a package deal from ebay. $128 will get you the hova bator 1602n, candler, auto egg turner, fan kit, hygrometer, and themometer. this isnt alot of money for what it can do, and youll need to spend very little after as far extras, bird/chick feed, bulbs, brooder box( i use a ten gallon size cardboard box with screen top and 75w bulb for chicks, works perfect). im on lockdown on my second batch, hatching 1 dozen jumbo coturnix by tomorrow. theres alot of people here with alot of good reliable info. go with it, youll do just fine.

Hi
This are my little kings
Their fathers are silver male, white male and brown(very brown) female, yes, I have 2 males with one female, all the eggs are fertile jajaja

There are one blue, one blue/white , and two that I don't know, those are the brown ones
I want to know only what is the mutation of the brown babies.
The white one died today...
Thanks
Thanks

yes, the 1602n is very good for starters and i have it with the fan, hygrometer, candler, universal auto turner all for $128. i got quail rails on the way. set it on a draft free spot-DO NOT keep opening/closing constantly the bator during incubation. add your water through the vent hole with an aquarium tube to avoid opening. i notice quite a few people dont want to spend much money and hand make bators, but to get you started with little trial and error buy one of these package deals-your investment will return very quickly as these birds are rediculously prolific!

Not sure what the colors are but they look very much like my normal Pharoahs did when they hatched from what I can see (they are kind of hidden by the others)

Hello everyone. Just thought I would pop in and say hello. I just finished my first attempt at hatching chickens and ended up with 1 out of 14 shipped eggs. I now have 45 quail in the bator on day 7. Excited to candle them tonight to see if anything is happening. Hoping for better luck then I had with the chicks.

Hello, I'm new to this thread and I'm on day 14 of my first quail hatch. I'm ready to remove the eggs from the turner and lock them down. What is the humidity level for the lock down? I believe the temp stays the same. Thanks for the advice.
