I think it was either the feed or coryza. Whichever one could have been prevented...

Yeah, coryza spreads fast. I bet it was a feed issue or a common head cold. Buttons are a bit fragile when not feeling well. There are also those that die of heart attacks and strokes, not only diseases. I have had some that dropped over night too...possible egg bound...I did have a centipede incident but that is a REALLY out of an ordinary event. Could have been spider bites, mites...anything....MICROBES ARE EVERYWHERE.

I am very thankful to have found this thread. I have a flock of chickens. We have placed an order for quail. They will be here in June. I had not planned on housing them together. I was planning to house them close by the coop though. Thanks to this thread (something I had not learned yet) i will house them on the opposite side of the property. I will also adopt the gamebird first mentality when taking care of my chores. i have a pair of chicken shoes that I use when doing chores in the coop. I will invest in a pair of quail shoes and make sure to not cross contaminate. Thank you for your very graphic ALL CAPS warning.
