As you have surmised POL are in short supply just now. Many hens have already started their molt & are off the lay so breeders don't have a lot of stock & what they have is mostly gone due to the panic buyers. You might be lucky & find a local breeder with a few pullets for sale.

Hi @chickencatdog , welcome to BYC! This is a great community with lots of advice and support.

Good luck in your search for POL chooks at this time. I agree with @Ribh ; many will be seasonally moulting and going off the lay now. But they are still good company even when they aren’t laying!
