I noticed recently that my Rhode Island Red's comb has flopped over. You can see a pic here:

This is tandoori, and she just laid her first egg today. I noticed the flopping yesterday, after about two weeks of minimal time outside due to weather. The girls didn't want to go outside until yesterday, but they seem like they're raring to go now. Could this be due to her hormones from beginning ovulating, or maybe it's due to the lack of sunlight and green grass, or is it possibly something else? May she have gotten frostbite during the cold weather? Maybe a nutritional deficiency?

Other than the comb she seems very happy and normal. She comes up for pets and she ran around with the other girls all day today.

combs...well there are wide spaced ones...ones that prevent hair breakage....even flea ones....Ooh..sorry!..you meant chicken combs!...duh!...

I've always got some of the girls that have "comb overs". Sure doesn't seem to bother them at all and they lay great. Sorry but I've no idea what causes it.
It makes it easier for me to tell them from the others, so I've never minded. I've got one that the comb falls a bit to the side but one area on it stays up so she looks like Pebbles on the Flintstones! Thus..her name

. Another has a really fluted looking ruffly comb that flops ever so slightly.
Maybe someone else will have the reason they do this and then I'll know too. Good luck!

...and i think she is a red/gold sex link..(i think...)...peace, Wendy

Well as long as the comb didn't change color or become smaller too. If it only flipped over and nothing else, I'd say you have nothing to worry about. My favorite chicken's comb flipped over but *changed color* as well...I didn't think much of it but about 3 weeks later he's dying.
