my husband told me it would be better to have a horse from a young age that our kids could grow up with
Ha ha! Yes. My husband grew up with a horse when he was little and it loved him. He’s going off childhood memory so don’t judge him too harshly . I’m asking here so I can help make a good decision for her. You know people can be stubborn with things and I know the horse needs some TLC. I’m concerned for her. She is sweet horse and I have to ask questions being a person who knows nothing about horses but is interested in learning. I know there are highly knowledgeable people in here and not in real life around me. As far having time for her goes I have plenty of that.Anyone who would say that knows little or nothing about horses - just my two cent's worth. If you want to know what I mean, ask me about "Syd, the Man-eating Mini" sometime.
As she stands right now, this mare isn't worth a whole lot - she's underweight, out of shape, definitely needs her feet done, and may have "issues," but a lot of that may just be lack of care. A sound, sensible older horse is exactly what a child should learn with, as long as the child can be sensible, too.
Hey, I'm a sucker for a hard-luck story, too, but you have make choices based on what you can reasonably deal with. Good luck, whatever you decide!
Just incase anyone is misunderstanding I didn’t mean to start the thread as if I was trying to profit off the horse. I was just more curious if she would be a hard horse to rehome as I will more than likely be taking over caring for the horse. I know that she will come with costs some monetary some sentimental and would not take that on if I couldn’t provide for her. I have had my mind boggled a million times when I watch kids play on tablets when they have a freakin’ horse in their yard! What I wouldn’t give to have that at their age! I am interested in her best interest not in monetary gain. I know enough to feed her and get her the care she needs as far as capabilities go or if she would have a happier life with someone who is more experienced I have no clue yet. She is nice and she likes when I pet her and feed her treats and she need to be groomed I am very aware of that.
