Question about alfalfa

I used to feed quite a bit of alfalfa. Now that my birds are permanently free-ranging, they help themselves to the alfalfa bales. Seriously, they don't even wait until the bales are unloaded out of the pickup to hop up there and start scratching through it! I'm reasonably sure they eat more than a few handfulls, though.

I bought a compressed bale of Alfalfa from TSC. I was giving them a flake or two a week.
I ran out of compressed straw that i use for bedding and decided to use the compressed Alfalfa. It doesn't make a good bedding material. Lots of stems. So I mix it with pine shavings till gone. So they get plenty Alfalfa in the coop. I bought a bale of Orchard grass and Timothy hay. I will try it when the Alfalfa is gone. I want them to have some greens during winter. GC

I would, chickens are wierd sometimes that is an advantage. I'm still working on honeydew not being a threat. Watermelon and cantalope are just fine but they don't trust honeydew.
I don't blame them. I hate honeydew. Come to think of it I hate cantaloupe too. And I love watermelon so they ain't getting any of that either. LOL. They wouldn't eat anyway.
