Question about Ameraucanas

Does anyone know what would happen if I bred a silver Ameraucana hen with a brown red Ameraucana roo? Would the babies be Easter Egger looking (anything under the sun, broken kinda coloring, random) or would they be silver or brown red? I am wondering because they are my only ameraucanas at this time, and the hen is getting older and might not lay next year.

Well, those are both Easter Eggers anyway. Not Ameraucanas. The male is red partridge or red duckwing, the female is red silver duckwing. Bred together you'd get sexlinks. Gold/silver heterozygote males (appearing silver as chicks) and red females. The chicks would be duckwing and maybe partridge.

I agree the rooster isn't brown red. He would need black wingtips to be brown red. Brown-red is a birchen-based variety.

Your rooster could actually be either partridge, wheaten, or duckwing. (also has black leakage around the hackle feathers, which indicates his parentage might involve something else too)

For the hen, I'm not sure what Amer means by "red silver" ? but I agree that she looks to have somewhat of a "mutt" appearance with the little spangled feathers near her tail and the leakage around her neck.

Either way- they both have pea comb, slate legs, muffs and beards, and you should certainly hatch some chicks! You will get chicks with those traits. Pea comb, muffs and beards are dominant traits so those will be passed down. Same with the blue egg gene.

It will be a surprise what you get, since the rooster could really be anything. (Unless you know the parentage?)

Hi hi, so I'd like to start with saying I completely agree with Amer after i did some research on Tractor Supply chicks (that's where I got them) and they are definitely Easter Eggers.

Another reason was asking about their coloring is because I'm just really interested in the names for the patterns and colors and all that! Thank you for your input!

As for hatching chicks from them, sadly right now I don't have a good place to pair them off in , and I've got a batch of (hopefully) 30 something BLR Wyandotte chicks on the way (my first time using an incubator to hatch chicks!!)

Oh and ik it doesn't matter but their names are Rusty and Cherry

I recommend the book "An Introduction to Color Forms of the Domestic Fowl" by Brian Reeder. You might find that helpful in your quest for more knowledge about the patterns and colors.

Oh that's very interesting! We have 7, 6 week old EE pullets right now and I'm excited to try and identify the markings and colors even with them being pretty mixed pattern wise. I'm definitely going to look that book up and hopefully get a copy, thanks for the tips!

Both of your birds are reslly pretty and I hope you are able to breed them! I'd love to see the offspring, both as chicks and as they grow out. I really have a soft spot in my heart for Easter Eggers and I wish they were sold AS Easter Eggers and not marketed under names that sound likie "Ameraucana" when that's not what they are. Easter Eggers rock!
