My Salmon Faverelle hen is about a year old and was a good mother until the chicks were out from under her. Then she attacked them as if they were the ones after her babies. So I took thenm away from her for their own safety. Has anyone ever had this happen? I am curious about why it may have happened and if she would do it again with her next clutch or grow out of it. Was she just an inexperienced mother being over protective?
To be fair my other Salmon Faverelle hen is the best mother you could ask for. She has been a mother twice and adopted all of the other hens chicks without blinking an eye. I wouldnt want to give anyone the wrong idea. They are such a gentle breed and I think they make excellent brooder hens.
