I've seen quite a few homemade feeders on BYC that are made of 5-gal buckets with saucer bottoms. For those of you that have them or have used them in the past, how much feed do your chickens normally manage to scratch out?
I am still using a metal feeder that looks like a UFO (haha...) that I used when my chickens were chicks. The girls are about 14 weeks now and I'm looking to make a larger feeder. They try and scratch the UFO feeder and normally it's at the opposite side of the run by the end of the day.
Also, what did you use to cut the feed openings at the bottom?
