Question about Buff Orpington ****PICS added***

I dont think your baby is a LB - I raised 5 last spring and mine were the black and yellowish looking chicks in your link - I would really think your baby is a cochin

either way she is a cutie

If it is a cochin, its not a buff. Buffs are not supposed to have any black in them. The feathers, from what I can tell, on your bird, are white, with some black in them. I am going to agree with Tuff, it looks like a light brahma.

My LB Bitsy was pure yellow until she started getting her real feathers. I vote Light Brahma!! Most definately some of the sweetest birds on the planet!

A big thank you to Standard Feed and Seed in downtown Jax,Fl. for providing these chicks free for those that attended a wonderfully informative chicken class earlier this month. These are the Buff Orpington ya'll wanna see. I am very sure they knew the breed. Afterall, they have been in the business since 1948.

K, back to the reason I'm posting. I was hoping someone could tell me if there is a color difference in the male and female buff orpington at this tender age. And because I now own this breed I would like to know more about this breed.
I do know they are a good layer and an especially good meat bird. They are a gentle breed that might produce a calmer quieter roo. Although, even though a quite roo is possible in this breed, folks have also said they've had some loud roos from this breed. The pulletsabout 6lbs.hens8,cockerels8 and roosters10lbs.Does anyone have a picture of these chicks as pullets and cockerels, That would be cool.

Jill, you should start your own thread if you have your own sexing questions. People will actually read it. You resurrected a thread here that is 4 years old.
