i think all my quail have been dying from chicken mites. but im not sure. can chicken mites kill quail in 2 days? once an empty roost has been cleaned, treated, etc., how long before i can be sure i can put more quail in there..? we waited a week and all the quail we bought are gone.. if it is chicken mites, how do i get my pens mite free. used powder, and spray, cleaned cage and sprayed again.
please help with any suggestions..we have done absolutely everything.

Hi, I am a quail vet. Some mites can kill in 8 hours. It matters how many mites there are.

thank you...we are going to spray cages daily for 10 days before putting new birds in..hopefully that will take care of the problem

get the whole cage of course. one mite can find a little spot and create new larva. mites can move from bird to bird and cage to cage. does this spray kill them or just make them move?

have your birds been loosing feathers, been having open wounds, or blood clots?

the spray is supposed to kill them..some have lost feathers, but only right before dying. some looked like they had a wound suddenly and then died. yes, we finally opened a bird because it looked fine, like it died in its sleep. we found nothing but some clotted blood that looked like it had come from under the wing area. the heart, lungs and other organs looked good. my neighbor is a biologist and he helped look at the bird.

mites come out at night unless they are very hungry or the larva has to feed

some feed under the wing because its warm. the bird was not actually sleeping it was just going into a mode of shock. if you would pick up a bird before its death you can 0feel it shaking or trying to fly.
