During the day, when my eggs are incubating, do they need to cool off for a period of time? My FIL says that the lid should be removed for up to 15 minutes so that they can cool down...as they would if the mother left the nest. However, my incubator instructions don't say anything about doing this!? Can I please have some advice on this? Thanks in advance!!!!

I did not let mine cool down. I got a 90% hatch rate for my first and only time. I know the hen does leave the nest, sometimes. Mine wouldn't leave if I didn't physically move her.

I dont take the lid off of mine daily to cool off. The only time they cool off is when I go to candle them and when adding water.. I have found the less I mess with the bator and eggs the better hatch rate I have had. GOOD LUCK!!!

Great! Thanks for your advice. Then, that will be my operating plan as well!

I'll be sure to let you know what happens...in 21 days or so! LOL!!!!

Waterfowl eggs benefit from being cooled off every day but I have never heard the same about chicken eggs?
