I have never intended on butchering my chickens.

How often should I feed them they are pretty huge compared to my other kind of chickens

Twice a day sounds good. Just enough to get a good crop full. Then make them forage for exercise. May also help to feed them as far away from the coop as possible "with in reason of course". This way the have to travel to get their food.

How do you manage to keep her alive in the summer?

View attachment 1787795 View attachment 1787794 I feed mine twice a day, she’s almost 2 now and her eggs are big compared to other chicken eggs. Here’s her (the naked spots are from rooster).

even if you do everything right there is a good chance she dies early. I kept mine lean and fit and foraging everyday but on the hottest day of the year (so far) she died at 15 weeks. I wanted to breed her but she died too soon. Good luck and I hope you end up with better results than did. My next attempt will be late summer so when she sizes up the temps will be lower.
