I have a white silkie hen who goes broody like every three months. So far, she's had some really cool EE and BR mix babies, but I have a little ancona roo I'd love to cross with her. She just hatched a baby in the middle of July, so it'll be a while before she's ready again. We keep her and the baby in a little run away from the other chickens, and they all get out to roam during the day.
When she's close to being ready again, how long will it take to get the other roo's sperm out of her system, and how long should I keep her penned with the ancona to get fertilized eggs? Also, do I need to leave him in there all day, or can I just put him in there for 4-5 hours or something?
