I have an existing coop that I want to add an egg door to. The nest boxes are inside the coop not the ones that are built onto the outside. So if I am out side looking at the wall I just have a flat wall to deal with. If I cut the holes and add the door, how do I prevent that from leaking when it rains. I know that somehow flashing is what you use, but I don't understand how to use it. I need some details or some pictures.

I am also building a new coop and considering building the nest boxes onto the outside of the building...again I don't know how to keep that area where the hinged lid is from leaking...

Please help educate me!

The best bet is to allow the roof to keep the water from hitting the top edge of the egg door. You can also make the outer frame thicker than the door so that the water will not want to run in there as well.
