question about egglaying frequency

I decided to raise hens from last summer after we bought the house, and most of the things are settled. I didn't do too much study before that, but had a rough idea different breed has different egglaying performance.

OK, so eventually I have now two polish, two maran, two araucana, two lohmann brown and two leghorn. Among them, lohmann and leghore are known as commercial breed and egglaying winners, araucana and maran are at the middle, polish the last.

However, after they reached their maturity and started laying, it's interesting that all of them lay eggs almost everyday (besides of course the egg cycle should be 25~27 hours so it's not really everyday). My question is, do they influence each other? Thanks.

I don't think you should worry.

Here's how I think about it: Each girl is born with a finite number of potential eggs in her system. Some girls lays lots of them early and take an early retirement. Some girls lay fewer eggs per week, but continue to "work" for a longer time.

I think whether they are daily layers or less frequent producers has more to do with genetics than how often their "sisters" are laying. However, WHERE they lay can be influenced by where others in the flock think is a desirable spot.

So, will laying an egg certainly takes some effort, it shouldn't exhaust your girls.

My Silkie/Cochin cross bless her wee heart started laying about 2 weeks ago and has laid an egg almost every day - yes the ~27hr cycle means some days there isn't one. BUT I was under assumption that the Silkies and Cochins didn't lay that many eggs. They are piling up now hahaha - good thing they are small eggs so really you need 2 of them to equal one large egg!

I am waiting on my other 2 pure Silkies to see if they will start laying now that Henny-Penny has started laying.
