OK so I have 3 hens loose on the yard. They have a giant barn to go in. I figured they would lay in the barn. I was wrong. Well I found a nest today. It had 10 egg. My hens laid every day before they were turned loose. Should I toss them or are they still edible?

Well I could be wrong but when we free ranged our chickens and found large nests of eggs we always floated them in water. If they float or stand on end then they are bad. But the other thing to consider is how hot was it when they were out?

i personly would not eat them but you can try to add some hay to the barn to help get the eggs in there also dipens how cold its been outside. i live in florida and wont eat them in the summer if they have been out for more than a day.

I completely forgot the float test. I live in Tennessee and we have not had weather over 68 maybe the highest

Oh yeah then float test it is and there probably all fine! Boun appetito!

I am so glade I found them. She had been singing the egg song for a few days and I keep telling dbf she's laying some where. We looked a few days and found nothing. He came to the conclusion she was just singing. I told him no she's laying some where. But I found them. He is out of town. Wait till he hears it. Gonna say told you so!! She is the only one who sings the song. I have some hens in a pen with a rooster and 2 have been laying but one only sings. Its weird.
