My girls are just starting on grower formula, i am feeding scratch and peck organic, corn and soy free- they are around 12 weeks old, and I want to start fermenting their food, I have looked at the long 400 page posts but it is honestly overwhelming all that information, the way I understand it, to be brief- moisten the feed with water and acv and yogurt cover it and in a few days it will smell like sourdough and be ok to feed? Also, I've been using small chick feeders up until this point and I'm about to get my adult feeder, is there a certain type of feeder that is recommended for feeding fermented foods?

Dishes or trough feeders made of metal or plastics. You shouldn't put out more then they will eat in a day, so a bulk or magazine feeders won't work.

Fermented feed will leach metal, so it is best to not use metal other than stainless steel spoons, in the making or handling/feeding.You don't need ACV nor yogurt. Just mix well and stir it a few times a day if you can. Mine took 4 days to take off, It will depend on the temp and how many yeasts are floating around in the air. They are naturally occurring so no need to 'add' stuff that does not 'need' to be in there. I read all the pages… don't ask. Beekissed is very gifted in her workings, very down to earth, I believe you can trust her.

So plastic is what you want to feed from, and plastic food grade buckets or such to make your batches in. If you have small amounts to make glass works, just don't seal them tight, you need room for the expansion gasses that will happen when your batch is working. Also you need a way to let the good stuff in.

Happy FFing, I sure like mine.
