Question about finches, and budgies (parakeets),

True, but even budgie from Wal-mart can be tame if young, trick is to pick the young one.

I got a young male from Wal-Mart for granddaughter. Had it finger tame within 15 min. They also had him talking within 3 months.

Hard to beat a budgie for the price. Also neat you can get them out and let the kids hold them. Beats a finch any day.

i've had lots of parakeets and do love them, but over the past couple of years have gotten into parrotllets. Inital cost will be a little more but they are so neat. They are the worlds smallest parrot, being about the same size as a parakeet only built a little shorter and heavier. But they have that intelligent being about them that parakeets don't have. Its like they actually have understanding! They are easy to breed and can be great individual pets, but like parakeets they must be the only one around if you want them to bond with you. I have societys instead of zebras. I think the fact that they are a totally man made bird is neat. I also have Lady Gouldians. Gouldians are for looks also as they do not tame down. They are beautiful. Each bird having seven different colors on them.

Oh know what you mean, older budgie are hard to tame.

Almost forgot another way to sex older ones females bite harder even tobring blood.

Just think budgie make great starter birds, finch are great for look and the easy of breeding.

You need to try a baby budgie, get one around 5 weeks, bet you will love it.
Trouble with some big store the sell older budgies that cant be train.

When I had my pet store all my budgies were young and finger train.

Not that it helps but here a few pictures of my cockatiel Gizmo...He says "who's a pretty bird" the pretty girl whistle and "Uh-Oh!"

ETA- Cockatiels are the easiest bird I know. They will lay eggs whenever you have a breeder box in the cage and they raise they're own babies, are better talkers than parakeets and live 5+ years longer than a parakeet plus they tend to be less scared of people!

All-in-all don't let the price and color of these birds scary you away folks!

True I have no idea of what their age was. They where both boys sure glad no girls if they bite harder. LOL. My dad always had them when we where kids they are fun. I think it all goes to what you want in birds.

To sex a budgie just look at the adults cere(above the beak) It will be darker (or brown) if hen and blue or pink if male!

nope they don't bite harder just had a bad female! lol!

Some do, ours no longer carry birds. Good thing person working in the pet department , try to tell me a canary was a parakeet.

They only carry fish now, still hear the worker telling someone a Fat goldfish was ready to give birth. It was the breed of goldfish, and they lay eggs. She knew some fish give live birth, just didnt know which.
