Question about game bird feed???

This may be a silly question but i am new to the quail scene. Is there Game bird STARTER and regular game bird feed? I had a bunch of baby quail die recently on me. Im not sure if it was starter mix b/c a friend gave me a sac of game bird feed. Any info would be greatly appriciated

Was the food ground up fine so they were able to eat it?

It looked a little fine but I'm not sure how fine I has to be. I've heard of some people screening it. I'm wondering if I should do that next time?

Yes, there is both Game Bird Starter and Game Bird Ration - at least where I live. For my newly hatched quail, the starter was too course, so I ground it almost to a powder in my coffee grinder. It really didn't take long before I stopped having to do that though - maybe a week to 10 days.
