question about location of Jugular for Ivermectin

Doc said to put the 10 drops of ivermectin on the girls' jugular for mites. Where the bleep is the jugular? I can not find it and all the documents on the web discuss finding it for slaughter, not medicating. If I miss the jugular will it still be effective? it just seems to bead up between feathers on the skin.

Also since he said to reapply in 10 days so does that mean I have to pitch all the eggs for 20 days? none of the articles I can find are really clear about this. thanks

Ivomec Ivermectin? When I put the drops on my girls i just lift the feathers up and put it on the skin on the back of their neck. That is just so they can not clean it off of themselves until it is absorbed by the skin. I dont think that it matters if you put it on the jugular or not. Bet he just means on the back of the neck.

no idea.. It's just what he told me.. I assumed because putting it over the jugular would get it in the blood stream better than transdermal elsewhere..

Other thing I want to know is what to order for the future because $38 to treat 3 birds twice is a little on the high side.. I suspect I can get a flock plus worth of the meds for that and split with a friend.

Here is what I use. The $38 bottle at TSC you can get on sale with a 10% coupon and it will cost you about $35.00. It will last you the rest of your life I swear. (unless you find someone to split it with) I use it about three times a year. I have 12 girls and will never be able to use it all. It does work great though. There is no withdrawl time either.

You can get generic Invermectin Pour On for about $15/bottle. Put on the skin of the neck, between the shoulder blades.

Never heard anyone recommend the jugular and it's not necessary, trust me.

I had a recent experience with ivomectin given subcutaneously by my vet to 3 silkies. Injectable or pour on should be done at the base of the neck between the shoulder blade area as stated above in previous posts. Dosage is supposed to be based on the weight of the chickens and 10 drops seems like a high dose. I don't know what the correct dose would be for your birds, just be aware that overdosing can cause paralysis. I also would be wary of giving doses two weeks in a row.
