I want to move my chicks to the coop during the day and back into the brooder during the nights. We cannot deal with the dust. :tongue. They are not fully feathered and our nights are chilly in the mountains. I have no power to the coop yet. Has anyone done this? Thesexare my first and only chicks. Thanks for the advice. :thumbsup

They will be fine, even at night at four weeks. There are MANY people who keep chicks outside in coops in very cold weather, and if it is just getting "cool" at night, they will cuddle and stay warm if need be. No need to constantly shift them in and out

I moved my 4 week olds out last monday, they are not fully feathered, the weather has been quite warm here , they are fine and loving it !

I have two sets of babies, almost 4 and 2 weeks. They stay in an outside brooder already. The first night I used a heat lamp (3 or 4 nights ago) but haven't since. They didn't seem to need it. There are 27 babies. They huddle together to sleep, and are up and running around in the morning. Of course the temps have been 100+ in the day ugh! Night and early morning seems to have been in the 70s.

We did it for about a week --and we are in the Sierras-- and now they have had 3 nights in the coop by themselves-- I used the deep liter method and put alittle DE in it as well as some straw to burrow into-- although when I peeked into it, they were squeezed between their little feeder and the grit pan on the Floor (I had these in the Brooder, maybe they were a familiar to them IDK) -- theres only 4 left (2 lost to dog

) but they are Jersey Giants so they are little bigger than regular chicks I think (these are our first) we get 15 more tommorrow-- and I plan to do outside day/ in at night after the first week-- it is hot just this last week-- low 90's but still 60's at night... The temp starts dropping fast in the evenings around here....

I put them out yesterday, :clap they huddled together frozen in one place but I stayed with them so they started to enjoy the room, then I left them and checked on them often. Left them in at night as advised then realized it was going to be below 50 but I left them in. Figured if it was too cold I would bring them in if they were huddled together but they weren't they were on the low perch spread out. So they did good they are adjusting well and my house is much cleaner!
