Question about Narragansett Turkey Chicks

She looks like a Royal Palm....Beautiful Bird.

She IS a Royal Palm..... I was hoping for an opinion on gender.

From the photos that you've posted, if I had to make a choice....I'd say that she is a hen. She has all the classic characteristics of a hen. The shape of the head, the beak, and the feathering pattern of the neck throat and head; they all look very feminine (turkey feminine) to me.

That's what I think too. She has never strutted or anything really that makes me think she might be a tom...but I don't know how much they change color/pattern wise as they approach adulthood.

I can only attest to what I have seen and what I have personally experienced and then cross-reference that information with what I have read in the liturature on the subject of turkeys....I have never read a published document that states that hens strut and I personally have never seen any of my hens strut.

Toms will start strutting shortly after they have feathered out. It has been my direct experience and supported in liturature that the strutting bird is in fact a Tom.

Starting to think we have a Tom and a Hen. The one I think is a tom is darker and makes a rather odd noise when separated from the hen. Either way they have been named.........Butterball and Jenny-O

Love seeing the pics of these little ones :) I have ordered 20 poults ordered that should be here next week, getting a little anxious!
