Question about NPIP.

Update from Dr Waters from Springfield, IL office:

No, testers aren't paid. The only item a tester has to purchase (from Springfield Serology Lab) is the antigen. Minimum order
is $15.00 and will be enough for about 100 tests. It is between you and the flockowner as to how much you charge. Most testers I know of have never charged anything (even when gas was $4.00+ a gallon. A lot of them test 4H kids birds for fairs and/or their own birds. I have no problem with a tester recovering the cost of their antigen and gas, but again, it is between the tester and the flockowner. This is by no way a part-time money making job.

So that clarifies the charges even it is free but there is a charge for using the tests itself, the supplies. I am going to be signing on!

Here in Arknasas most private testers that I've heard of charge .75 to a dollar a bird but they can only test birds for like taking to a show or flea market they cannot certify your farm. Only a state tester can do that and they do charge for that but I can't rember how much.
