i got 14 pigeons today and some have bands that say agsg and a bunch of #'s on them. i know the years r 06, 07 and 09. does anyone know what the initials mean and the # mean? i was told they r all homers but not sure since new to the breed. soon as i get a chance i'd love to see if anyone can help me with colors of them and to see if they r homers, crosses or just what i have, lol. will take pics soon as i can for ya all. i do know there is 2 girls they laid me eggs already. one at the auction and one on the way home and i have boys calling too, lol. i know some r black, some blubars and then some r real pretty with white markings while others have black markings and then there is redish brown ones that r preety too. they sure r different from my modenas and frillbacks but r beautiful.

oh and one has a odd band with a bunch of stuff on it i will catch that one and ask u that also after i write down the info on it. at a quick glance it has like the breeders name i think and then says something about genetics and some other stuff on it. i have never seen anything like that band. my others have the npa bands so these r really different from them. anyone know or seen any bands like this before?

It all depends on the specific band, for example, the national Pigeon association's bands read as follows(This is one of our bands), NPA 13 09 ZE 890" The "NPA" is for the national pigeon association, 13 is the band size 09 is the year, ZE is the alphabetical code and 890 is the serial number . As your flock grows, the serial numbers will help you tell bird from one another. For example I have two red rollers and two white/blue rollers who look exactly alike, and as luck would have it they paired off as two pairs, one red and one white per pair. The only way we can tell them apart is by the band number. Good luck with your new birds.

Here's a pic of our two pairs, this is not a doctored photo, and they are banded 01, 06 and two are 09's

yep,lol that is how i tell my twins cocoa and pebbles apart. they r banded npa so their bands r like what u said. they r i thnk recesive red frillbacks they look identical i cannot tell them apart unless together one is bigger just a bit more than the other. well that tells me what 2 of their numbers mean for the frills i didn't know. that tells me on the new ones which is the band size then. thank you!!! i will check their bands closer tomarrow and tell ya what they say more maybe that will help. i tried to look up agsg on the net to see if it was an orginazation but i can't find anything yet. some r double banded but the second ones r plain just different colors so i have to see if any colors match up i think they r to mark either pairs or babies from different bloodlines not sure some r not banded at all or only 1 plain band. i know a friend of the guy who was the breeder so soon as i can i'm going to call him and see if he will give me the name of the breeder and his number so i can call him and see what more info i can get on them. they sure r sweet little things love the sounds they make. when lights went out tonight haven't heard a peep from them, lol. i'll try to get pics of them tomarrow when i have time i'm really excited and can't wait to show u all them!!

u hit that right on the nail. i am a member of that forum but i forgot about it haven't added it to my favorites since my comp crashed. thank you so much for helping me, i had seen about the pigeon king on the news a few mths back here. all i can say is wow i didn't know it was that bad till i started reading this stuff. they origionate from his flock and from the article i read looks like they r homes and a few highrollers since there is a few smaller ones. this has alot of info on it case anyone else find pigeons with these bands. http://www.farmanddairy.com/news/updated-pigeon-king-goes-bankrupt/9616.html
