I know this is backyard “chickens” but I do have a question about rabbits. We are going to keep our new rabbits in the same building, but separated, but then I heard that you should keep rabbits in a quiet place and our chickens are all hens but still kind of loud. Is that ok?

I think, but do not know for sure, that by quiet, they mean calm, so not a lot of people walking through all the time, not sudden loud noises, but I would think a couple of hens chatting wouldn't be a problem.

I used to keep my rabbits right next door to my aviary, where I kept peafowl, chukars, wild turkeys etc. and they did fine. The main thing is that rabbits are nocturnal, so they like it to be peaceful in the day so they can get some sleep. But you know, I showed my rabbits, and the shows take place during the day, and they coped just fine. I think your plan would work out.

That’s good but I’m in there a lot.

If you are calm and quiet when you walk in, it shouldn't bother them, they should get used to your movement in there the same as they get used to the hens. They just don't want a lot of sudden noises and sudden movements spooking them all the time. So, don't walk in there with a tuba and start playing it or crashing around knocking stuff around.

My rabbits have gotten used to lots of noise and movement. My dogs routinely run around the fenced area their hutches are in, and another 4 rabbits now are in a pen inside my shed which houses goats, chickens and donkeys. They get used to noise and movement. My rabbits that the dogs try to harass will put their noses right to the fence as the dog is barking at them. They seem to enjoy it.

Haha!

I would say be sure they have a box to retreat to if they are scared. It helps keep them warm in winter too. I generally have at least one solid wall on the cages i make, on the side of prevailing winds. If it is windy and cold i put a tarp over their hutches.
Good luck with your rabbits.
