Question about rolled oats

Just an update. I went to the feed store and asked for rolled oats, they carry bags of either 40 or 50 pounds (i forgot which), but since I wasnt even sure that my geese would like them & didnt want to risk buying a huge bag of something they wouldnt eat, the store was able to give me just 2 pounds in a paper bag. (the receipt said "crimped oats" and thanks to this thread, I knew crimped = rolled)

I mixed it in with their regular food, and was pleased to see that my geese ate them - my geese appear to be picky eaters, they dont eat half of the veggies that I've read on the forum. So YAY!! My rolled oats experience was a success!

I started to feeding oats at 8/10 weeks I forget exactly. I used the calculator for feed on Metzers site. I could only get crimped oats where I live. They did fine. I also mix it with my adult chicken feed. I feed oats in the later spring and summer to all my flock and then in the winter , add corn(scratch grains). I have read that the oats encourage slower development in the birds. Also recently read in one of my books,( I think it was Harvey's book ) that any grain that has been crushed , rolled, crimped , etc. has lost nutritional value. Of course , right. For my next bag of oats, I think I am going to switch to whole oats.
My geese love the oats, that will clean up all the oats and have left over pellets. The Ducks have left over oats, and clean up all the pellets. The chicken eat everything.
