Question about run with trees

We're planning the same and are intending to put hot wire (electrical fencing) around the trunk that will stick out above the netting. ZAP!!

We're looking at the same problem. I intend to cover the runs and thought about cutting a hole in the mesh for the treee, and then weaving a piece of flexible pvc pipe through the hole in the mesh to make a ring around the tree. That way we're not attaching the mesh directly to the tree, but hopefully still preventing the d*&% raccoons from getting in. As the tree trunk gets thicker, the flexible piping can be replaced and the hole made bigger. We've not gotten to that part, yet, so this is still theory for me!

Thank you so much everyone!!! You know my neighbor used to have some hens and they were never in their pen or coop. I don't know how they survived as long as they did.

I can see my DH wanting to do something like that. He's gotten all into coming up with ways to keep my fish pond safe from herons and improving the filtration and water pumping. Right now he's trying to figure out how to get some of our frogs to move out.
