Question about shipped eggs? Are they not fertilized?

There could be A lot of different factors. I've personally hatched Seramas, but I have hatched Silkies, and show girls and other various bantams. Bantams are notorious for being more difficult to hatch, at least from what I gather, unless they're from your own stock. To test this out, I was given a dozen silkie eggs at a show from a local lady...and guess what. When you remove the shipping factor it is truly amazing. I hatched 9 out of 12.

Take a few of the eggs if you still have them and crack them open. Same thing happened to me here on BYC bought some blue laced Red wyandottes for my first hatch, two different sets. First set did amazing hatched 10 out of 12...not bad for 1st timer. Second set, nothing...all clear so I cracked the eggs and guess what all yolks were scrambled.

Sadly, shipped eggs are a gamble, especially on some of the harder to hatch breeds. It makes it hard to establish stock so you can breed your own if you can't hatch in the first place. A lot of sellers will be great and send more eggs for shipping costs. Some not so much. You just have to find what works for you. I'd look around on BYC for breeders, a lot of them are much more friendly I've noticed then some Ebay sellers.

I'm glad she is going to send you some more. Good luck with your next bunch.

I've bought a lot of eggs online and had them shipped in the past and generally the hatch rates have been pretty good.

Although recently I too ordered some Serama eggs and was very disappointed to find that none of them were fertile

Maybe the serama cocks just aren't as good as some of the other breeds out there?

Better luck next time!

x2 also serama are one of the hardest breeds to incubate.
The best thing is to buy your eggs from someone you or someone you know actually has purchased from before or has a good standing with others. BYCers are far the best sellers to buy from in my exp. I have bought and sold tons of eggs on here and ebay. Sellers here seem to be more personal than other places.
