My hatch seems to be going along well. Sunday will be 2 weeks. I candled a few and the eggs seem to be full. or mostly full anyway. I have a few that look empty, mostly the large eggs. My question is this, when I get to the last 3 days, do I take them out of the egg carton and lay them flat? or just leave them in the egg carton? Second question. I have a dowel that the egg carton has been sitting on. I use it like a seesaw. When I turn the eggs, I just push on one side of the carton or the other. Will I need to take that out so the carton can lay flat, presuming I can leave them in the carton? Thanks!

Hi Mister B! My eggs will be 2 weeks tomorrow also!

I have left mine in the egg carton before and it worked fine. I have mine in an egg turner, but at lock down I take it out and put them in the carton. I don't turn them at that time. I have had successful hatches this way. We will have to keep in touch and compare our hatches! Although this morn, I awoke to find my electric off and the temp in the bator had dropped to 80 degrees! Electric back on now, but I hope nothing happened to the babies!! Will see next week.

Happy hatching!!

In the last days now. I stopped turning last night. I sat the eggs down flat in the egg carton, big end up. I hope all is well inside. Sunday is the due date. The temp has remained a steady 99-100 degrees all three weeks. There was a 104 degree spike for a little bit on day 2, but most of the eggs (via candling) seem to have developed. My two largest eggs did not develop anything, or they don't look like it. The others are dark inside other than a small area near the top. I never noticed any movement inside, but I have read that you may not see any. The humidity has been holding in the 70% range, so I expect it will continue. We will see.

Just came across this thread... Good luck!! My hatch day (or due date) is Monday. I just took my egg turner out today and set up for a higher humidity and lockdown in a.m!

Ive read everything I can on byc about incubating! I'm a newbie to this... I remember reading the vents should be open for the hatch so the chicks get fresh air... But not so much that you lose humidity. I plan on leaving one vent hole open tomorrow when I lockdown.

after pipping, there is no more movement. how long to wait? what is going on in there?

Look in the forums under "incubating and hatching" or "hatch a longs" but I've read some can take 24 hours from internal pip to zip. Usually from zip about 30 minutes more or less as long as they have enough humidity and don't get shrink wrapped! This is all from memory not experience.

I typed "internal pip" into the search bar and a few threads come up that could help you out
