Hello! I recently ordered a dozen shipped hatching eggs. I have a small automatic incubator that can only hold 12 eggs, but the seller gave me 2 extra in case any broke in transit. None of them broke, and I have 14 eggs to incubate. I managed to put all 14 in the incubator, but 6 of them are not turning when the incubator automatically turns every 2 hours. I’ve been switching those 6 non turning eggs every day in the evening to a spot where they can actually turn. The concern with that is the fact that those 6 non turning eggs aren’t turning for the majority of the day before I switch their spots, and turning over 3-5x the next day after I switch their spots. This also means that most likely all 14 eggs will have two or three days (or more) where they aren’t turned because I switch them between the non-turning and turning spots.

I have thought of an alternative, where I keep the 6 non turning eggs where they are and just turn those myself every 3-5 times a day. However, I am concerned about how often I would have to open the incubator (temperature and humidity loss). If I were to choose this option, would it be recommended I have the humidity be higher? Currently, the incubator is around 45-50% humidity, but drops to 40% when I open it. The temperature drops a little too but otherwise is a consistent 100. I do feel like this is a better option, but I would like some opinions.
I would like to note that I candled the eggs, and I believe 2 have detached air sacs. It looks like a big moving air bubble. I feel that I should have those 2 detached eggs be manually turned along with 4 other eggs. I have already let all the eggs settle for 24 hours before incubating. The shipping took around 4-5 days. I placed the eggs in the incubator yesterday (June 17) at around 2pm.

If you have the time I would just manually turn them, and you could take the turner out.

Like @cavemanrich said, you likely will have some infertiles/ early quitters that you can take out. You should be able to tell by day 5 or sooner.

As long as you are quick about opening the incubator, there is no problem with opening it often to turn. And for my incubator at least, its temp and humidity gets back up in a minute or so.

Hey there!
The first time I hatched eggs, I didn't have a turner in my incubator. I turned them 2-3 times a day myself - in the morning when I woke up, afternoon when I got home from work, and again before bed. I had 6 eggs in there, they all developed perfectly and hatched.
(I bought the automatic egg turner about a week into incubating, but just giving that example to show they will be fine with manually turning a few!)

You know what else I did that would make a lot of people clutch their pearls? - I candled my eggs almost daily until lockdown.

You have to think of it this way- when momma is incubating her eggs, she can get up and be off of them for a couple of hours and they're fine. *Not condoning or suggesting you candle everyday or open your incubator that long.... but if you need to turn your eggs 3x a day you will be fine doing so until lockdown.
When you open the incubator, as long as you are quick the temp normally goes right back to what it should within a few minutes of closing it.

Good luck with your babies!

Thank you! I have decided to remove the turner and will manually turn them myself.

Hello, thank you for your comment! I’ve replied in a previous comment but I have decided to remove the turner like you and others have recommended. It seems to be the best option until I remove unviable eggs.

Just keep doing what you are doing. When you candle them AT day 7 or so, you may find that not all are developing. So choose to remove the duds, and you should have the incubator turning all the remaining eggs automatically.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and :welcome
Thank you! Yes I am hoping that there are quitters to remove by day 7. In the meantime I will just manually turn them.
