What do they eat?? I hae chick feed but do i need to ake it smaller. They just hatched =]

you can crunch up the chick feed just a bit (put it in a ziplock bag and smash it with a veggie can) and if you have cats smash up some kitty food in there too (it will up the protien)

You only need to mash it up to smaller size for like a week

I'll tell you an easier way to 'mash up' the feed.

1) Put some feed in a medium sized bowl.
2) Add some warm water, just enough to wet it.
3) Using a fork, mix it up until it is all moistened. You don't want it soaking wet, just enough to break it down.
4) Store it in your fridge, uncovered. This will allow it to dry out some, without spoiling.
5) Feed the feed wet (fresh) or dry. Just be sure to 'mix it' up every time you get some, to keep it broke down.

You will be surprised at how much less they waste the feed!! I do this for all baby quail, buttons and cortunix, until they go outside.

I feed mine flock raiser, which is about 20% protein. You can also give them some cooked eggs, chopped up, to increase the protein level.
