*QUESTION AND UPDATE POST 8* What is wrong with some of my chicken??

Honestly...once they dry completely I would just put the Sevin dust directly on their bodies to be SURE nothing is coming out of there. Then dust the entire coop.

I never use DE...but that's just a preference of mine.

I hate to jack your post but this gave me a question. Would that amount of eggs kill a bird when they hatched? Also how long could they live without a host?

Actually, mites can kill a bird. I have had it happen to my broody hen. Destroyed me. Was one of the best Brahma hens I had.

With that amount eggs, left untreated, it would take about 2 weeks for the bird to go under. Especially if every egg hatched.

Its not my post but I wonder if folks look at it more as we are having a discussion that brings up thoughts we like to share so we all learn? Im relatively new to contributing to forums. Is it a problem to bring up thoughts to discuss around a topic? I'd like advise on this from some veteran posters.

Honestly, I believe that as long as it deals with the original poster's issue, then it should have no issue.

Others see it as being rude and would prefer they make their own post/thread.

Personally, I don't mind one bit! I'm still new to chickens and I learn a little more off other people!
And if there is one with convo going, there tends to be better luck than starting your own and having it sit idol.

rodriguezpoultry any suggestions on how to powder them and how much to use? Or how to get the eggs off their feathers? Or are the eggs dead because of the dip?

If the feathers are in an inconspicuous place...you could just go ahead and pluck them out. It just depends on how bald you want your bird!

The eggs may be dead, but there may also be a few that are still alive.

Some people use salt shakers to put the Sevin on. I just use my good ole bare hands. Take a scoop of the Sevin from the bag...put the Sevin on the bird, make sure to ruffle all the feathers so that the Sevin gets to the base of the feathers.

Isn't there different "strengths" of Sevin Dust? Which one is safe to put on the animals? I'm going to buy a bag to have on hand in case I see my birds having this problem. Thanks for all the good information!
