get local chicks..search craigslist or similar sites for local chicks...Black Australorps are fairly common and you should have no problem finding either some chicks, pullets, or hens

I didn't realize that the shipping would cost more than the chicks themselves -.-

I guess im not ordering them... so is there a cheaper way of either ordering chicks or getting chicks?

Check your local Craig's List for breeders of the breed you want in your area, then go pick them up. Or better yet, ask some of the breeders here on BYC that are close to you and have the breed(s) you want. Then there is always buying hatching eggs that can be mailed, but that is a risky endevor! Ask around in the breed threads here, more than likely, there is someone right down the road from you who has what you are looking for!
