Question for the ladies - Endometrial Ablation?

I had an abdominal hysterectomy done about 7 weeks ago and I feel better than I have ever felt in the last 15 or more years!

Long story short... each month, I would literally hemorrhage for 3 or more weeks at at time. I could not work, or even get out of bed. My primary care doctor told me that I would need either a hysterectomy or a monthly blood transfusion because I was so anemic. My OB/GYN suggested having a thermal ablation. This procedure DID NOT work for me. I continued to suffer for a few years because both my DH and I lost our jobs and had no insurance.

He now has a job with insurance and I switched OB/GYN doctors. The new doctor was NOT surprised that the thermal ablation did not work because I have numerous fibroids, as well as a cyst on my ovary. She reviewed different medications with me (that she did not think would help) and then discussed having the hysterectomy. Let me tell you.... having the hysterectomy was one of the the BEST decisions that I have ever made. In two weeks, I was already feeling great! People were AMAZED at how fast I healed! Yes, I am going through menopause, but I would rather deal with hot flashes, than being bed-ridden and putting that kind of stress on my body that the hemorrhaging was doing. I believed the hysterectomy saved my life.

I wish you the best in whatever decision you make. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

how long did it take you to get back on your feet?.. I dont mean cleaning the coop and all that jazz... I mean till you were able to drive for short distances like to the store or drop the kids off at school kind of errands? go for coffee....

I've been considering it, but all the literature I can find suggests that they don't really recommend women my age to get it done. DH can't have kids anymore and I've had two. There's always the "what if" scenario, but I'm pretty ok with not having any more kids. I like sleeping all night and not wiping butts. I'd prefer to do EA than a hyster, but none of those simple fixes EVER work for me so I doubt this would either. Everyone says that at 27 I'm too young to really know what I want, but I've done a lot of living in my 27 years and have a pretty darn good idea of what I want.

My doctor told me that whenever I am ready, he suggests Novasure for me too. I've not jumped on it just yet simply because I can still live with my periods. They haven't reached that point to where I can't deal with it anymore. I'm 41.

Guess I was kind of lucky in a way LoL I've never heard of E/A.
However, I went through Meno when I was 18 and haven't done more than spot since I was 17

That's the bonus.
The con is that when I decide I want kids (which I should be thinking about at 25...), it will either be VERY expensive In Vitro or I'll have to adopt.
Good luck with whatever choice you make!

I have WHAT in my yard? :

Has anyone experienced and endometrial ablation?

I am getting on in years, long in the tooth, etc etc... Looks like I am peri-menopausal. This is all average stuff, but my cycle has gotten nastier and nastier, heavy and long to the point where I am incapacitated 2 to 3 days out of every month. Last month I bled for 13 days.

So anyway. He suggests this procedure which frankly sounds too good to be true and you know what they say about those things.

anyoe had this? What did you think? Did it work?

I had an endometrial resection and ablation. I had it done about a year and a half ago, not for the typical reason of super heavy menstrual cycles but for really long extended ones with no apparent cause.

It worked...okay. It did not completely eliminate my period but it did lighten it and shorten it tremendously. The gyno who did the procedure was really surprised that it did not completely stop my periods.

My DH had already had a vasectomy so even though I was 32, not the typical age for the procedure, my gyno was okay with it.

There is the possibility of the lining growing back eventually, and if that happens I may just go with the hysterectomy and be done with it. I wanted to avoid the 6 weeks or so of being laid up so I tried the E/A first.
