Question for those who ship eggs.....

Delivery confirmation doesn't really track anything--all it tells you is where the package used to be, not where it is at any given moment. I use it more to prove I shipped them and when than anything else. And Priority Mail is not guaranteed whatsover. I've even had the P.O. send it Parcel Post when I paid $16 for eggs to be shipped Priority across the country. Needless to say, when they finally arrived and were incubated, none hatched. I would have sent eggs for just shipping, and have done so in the past, in addition to sometimes shipping them again at no cost to the buyer, but I cannot afford to pick up the tab for the P.O.'s incompetance too many times.

Having eggs shipped is really a gamble from start to finish. Not only maybe they won't hatch, they may not arrive at all.

Thanks. I just called the po and they aren't there. ;( I am emailing the person to make sure they don't have some sort of DC or some other sort of 'tracking' type number to check on this. The lady at the po said for priority it should be 2-3 days tops. Well I am going to check at one other po and see if they might be there and if not then I will just assume they are caught up in the never ending system somewhere.

Mail does move on Sunday. Personally I always get a confirmation number, if for nothing else but to prove I did my part and mailed them. If buying eggs request a confirmation #, so you know they were sent.

If I were the seller, I would offer to replace them for the cost of shipping only. Unfortunately thats only my two cents worth.

If you paid by paypal, and can't work things out with the seller, you can always file a dispute. I would only use that as a last recourse though.

Hope things work out for you.

Boy if I knew these weren't coming I would have bought the box of 60+ eggs that were being offered on here today and is the next state over.

Eggs are a fragile commodity to ship under the best of circumstances. Anyone selling eggs should be aware of the hazards involved (late arrival, poor handling, being overheated or frozen). Insurance is null, but not getting delivery confirmation just isn't an excuse, especially when it's free if you print your shipping label online through USPS clicknship or paypal.

I have a small shirt business, which, fortunately, isn't effected much by handling, temperatures, or time in transit. However, if someone paid me for a shirt and never got it, I would expect to replace it at my cost. I wouldn't even consider asking the customer for any more $$. While delivery confirmation isn't the best tracking option, it will prove that the item was shipped and that it arrived (and when). Both parties benefit by that knowledge.

Many of you are only selling a few eggs to offset your expenses, but anytime you make a 'business transaction' whether it's one or a thousand, you should consider it as such and know what your risk factors are. Just like a fellow who might sell glass lampshades. Your customer expects what they bought will arrive in a condition that they can use it.

I send with a tracking #. so is am not sure about lost egg, But I think most people have say it is out of there hands when they leave there house. maybe you can ask if they would send more if you pay shipping or shipping plus half one eggs.

How much more time do you think I should give the po? I did email her again today and she said she shipped it from her po. She has yet to offer any replacements. She does sell on eggbid as well and did mention, after the fact, of having trouble shipping eggs via the po before. So should I wait til tomorrow? I am just worried that even if they do get here they won't be viable. She did harvest them on the 19th. I know when you buy eggs you take a chance but I would at least like the chance to incubate them. My bator is getting lonely......lol

Smart on their part, the high temp. would start the incubation, then if cool would kill them. Eggs should be stored at a cool temp. Trouble with shipping eggs now, they get to HOT.

Once started incubating they need to stay at the 99 temp.
