I am a relatively new chicken owner (less than two years). This morning I found one of my hens dead in the coop. Everyone seemed fine yesterday evening when I closed the coop. One hen died last year; I noticed her comb was purplish color and I separated her from the others, she died the next morning. A friend who has chickens says sometimes this just happens; is that so?

. Sorry for your loss. Blueish comb can be heart problems. There are many illness chickens can get and won't show any signs until they are stressed and they can die with no warning. Stress can be due to weather, worms, mites, lice, fleas, over crowding, frozen water, out of feed, etc...
