Question of the Day - Saturday, July 5th, 2025

People here say, "Boughten," meaning "purchased," as opposed to something they made themselves. I heard this in tool and die when people referred to a "boughten mold base," as opposed to one constructed in the shop.

Another is using the word "bring" instead of "take." "Bring that to Marlon."

What is something that is regional/strictly unique to your area that you didn’t realize was regional or unique until recently?

Prickly pear cactus. I've seen it all over our local beaches, but always thought it was a non-native garden escapee. Turns out, it's native to our east coast beaches! I'm definitely moving it from my front porch pots - where it is obnoxiously needy of special care - into my garden, where it can thrive happily under loads of neglect!

I’m not sure what Mardens is. But Market Basket is a grocery store LOL an AMAZING one. Amazing prices LOL anyways, I Googled it earlier and apparently you guys DO have some but probably not many? I think they’re in southern Maine.
Oh. Mardens is a bargain store where most of their items are only there once. Their slogan is "Shoulda bought when I saw it at Mardens" and it's exactly true. You'll come across one good deal one day and then never see it again. One deal I just got is I bought two rolls of 36" by 100' hard wire cloth for $50 each. For that much hard wire cloth for that price, I couldn't pass it up. I don't need it right now, but the way Mardens is, is I won't ever get that deal again.
I'm more in the Central part of Maine, so I'm not very familiar with what's in the Southern. There seems to be a lot of stores I don't know about down there and I'm typically getting surprised by them.
