A tip for those with regular power outages ...

We lose power with pretty much every major thunder or ice storm, probably 5-6 times a year. Open flames (with multiple cats) make me nervous, so I needed an alternative light source. Flashlight batteries are expensive - and I can never find them when I need them! A friend suggested Dollar Store solar stakes.

Bingo! I keep a few in a flower pot just outside my main doors and several in the garden around my coop. When the power goes out, we move the porch lights inside. They work so well for emergency power that I now keep one in my kitchen window 24/7 as a night light. As a bonus, I can swap that one out to match the season!

All you city dwellers still have options. Get a generator, even a small one would at least keep your fridge running. And you can always plant food in pots on a patio, deck, or balcony. There are loads of options, you just have to think of them
We have a whole house generator now, so we're never without electricity.

And if that is out of budget or space constraints (I’m no stranger to that, my apartment is 250 sq ft total) then stuff like keeping gallon jugs of water in the cabinets, canned food, and a flashlight is a great way to be slightly more prepared. Also, battery packs for charging electronics. I keep a few around just in case. (Of course, this applies to short term situations, but those are much more likely anyway.)

Would be hard. But possible. Do much by hand.
We have gas to cook. And running water.

If solar power is allowed it’s very doable. If not we sort of have to live like people did 125 years ago.

For this question... what time frame are we considering? Days, weeks, months, years? Also, would the power be off everywhere?

If it the power were off everywhere, I'd expect mayhem and a total breakdown of society within weeks, if not days.
It only takes hours for panic to set in. Sheeple just can't deal with minor inconvenience. :lau

Yep, exactly. My assumption was long term.
