I could survive because I have a wood stove, but then there is the incubator and I really wouldn’t want it to shut off or the heat lamp for the chicks!
 
Here? No. Electricity is critical for desert dwellers for cooling and for water access. Localized solar (like rooftop) can generate a lot of juice to run the HVAC, but if the pumping stations aren't running, no water is flowing. It would be a struggle daily to find water.

Someplace with a more moderate climate and a water source? Yes. We could survive on basics long enough to build a comfortable permanent shelter.
