Question of the Day - Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

With fresh picked that is a foot or two tall you need to remove a lot more than a half inch.

Sounds like you are dealing with store bought and not fresh picked.
I think the preparation once you had was the question, not so much the source. I have a black thumb, I'll kill it if I tried to grow it. I could kill a plastic plant.😅
We did have it wild around here when I was young, if you got to it in before something else did, it was a treat.

I wouldn't know. Freezing ruins most vegetables. It pickles very well.
The internet says if you blanch it for a few minutes, then dry and put it in a vacuum sealer bag, it's good for 6 mos frozen.

Sounds like a lot more work than it's worth for fat grass. :p

I hate canned vegetables and nearly all pickled vegetables, so I blanch and freeze whatever I can't eat immediately out of my garden because it's nearly as good as fresh that way.

If you break it where it wants to break there is very little if any waste. I can see that some people still need to cut it to please themselves with how the cut looks vs the break.
I care because asparagus is expensive compared to other vegetables and I want as much of what I buy as possible even if it means I get a bit of the woody bit, if nothing else it's extra fiber
