I received some eggs in the mail on Friday. they were packed super carefully, and all arrived without any breaks cracks, or anything like that. however- I did notice that when I was doing a quick candling to make sure there were no cracks before I set them on Saturday, the the air cells seem large and/or sort of wobbley and uneven. I set them anyway (after sittling 24 hours) in an egg carton, large end up. Is there something else I should do? should they be ok?

shipped eggs should be held in bator pointy side down for 7 days and no turning

detached aircells as yours are should be also done the same and handled sparingly and even lockdoen keep them uprite for hatch day

99% of detached aircells dont hatch and shipped eggs are a crap shoot to start with even when aircells are good

Ugh...that's what I was afraid of. I will keep trying with them though. So, should I keep tilting the egg carton, like I have been 3x day or leave them be? and leave them in the carton for lockdown as well...assuming some survive until then? What makes the air cells detach? These guys were packed very carefully. It must have taken her over an hour to wrap each one so carefully :( Is it air pressure or something?

aircells can rupture or detach for many reasons

usually during shipping when they get jolted

that wont break the egg but it will jumble the insides up

took a peek at the eggs last night- didn't really candle them, i just shined my led light close to them in the carton. Definately see blood rings in three of them already- or I think it is...a heavy red streak, not thin and curvey like veins. I cant see through some of them at all to see what's going on...hopefully something good.

fully candled the eggs last night. 7 of the 13 were dead with bood rings, and 3 were clear. Still have three eggs in there tha tI couldn't really see through the shells well enough to tell if they are alive or not, but I doubt it. The couple that I cracked were pretty nasty. So sad...I should have some quail hatching this weekend though, finger crossed.

I have had no real luck with shipped eggs, I have had lots of detached aircells. I set 20 shipped eggs on friday, and can see blood rings in about 10 of them already, I can see veining in about 4 or 5 and the others are clear or cant see through the shell well enough since it is so early.

I have really good sucess with my own eggs , but have had my incubator crash the last time I went to go into lock down, probably a temp spike while i was at work or soemthing.

Well...my Phoenix eggs got here Saturday...Amanda sent me 13!!
But ALL has broken air cells & tiny bubbles!!

(3 didnt make it)

Did my research...& found out that they can still hatch!!

So I let them settle 24 hours & put them in the bottom of the bator for 5-7 days (NO TURNIN)

Hope I get a few to hatch!!

Good Luck to everyone!!!

The ones I put in on the 13th r doin GREAT!!

I hope you get some to hatch! I let mine settle as well, and also didn't turn them, just a very slight tilt to the egg carton the are in, but it didn't work. one of the air cells was so bad it was seperated all the way down the side of the egg on two sides. the few I have left are only about half of the egg. its really strange. I will try shipped eggs again in the spring. It's gettin pretty cool here and dh wont let me have chickens in the house all winter :)
