Question on brooder

I plan on using Sunvie reptile heater in my brooder for my older chicks, who don't spend much time under the heat plate, it has a guard and it doesn't have light, just a heat bulb. Do you see any issues w/ having it in a plastic tote? I can't find any warnings about it online, but am just curious on what everyone thought.

Generally if chicks are staying away from the heat plate they don't need extra heat. Most are acclimated to 70-75 degrees by 2-3 weeks of age. That's when they are more able to regulate their own body temperatures. What age do you consider older, and what's your ambient temperature?

The “older” ones are 2 wks. I was going to put reptile heater in their brooder for a bit and plate in newborns.

Generally you need to use a thermometer to set and regulate the heat. It may or may not put out too much heat. I am not familiar with the product, so I can only guess at it.
