Hi,
My chicks just finished their chick starter so I purchased the grower. It looks like a bran that I feed my horse-well, the texture anyways. Do I just put it in the feeder as is or am I supposed to wet it? I mixed it with the remainder of the chick crumbles, but it's just about down to just the flakes of grower. Am I feeding them correctly. They are about 8 weeks old.
BTW, my husband thinks we have a defective rooster..He doesn't crow until my husband turns the light on in the basement and takes the dog out in the morning. He says, "Wait a minute. Why am I waking up the darn rooster. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? LOL:)

I feed mine chick starter/grower until they start laying then switch to flock raiser. I feed mine just dry no problems here.

Grower isn't meant to be fed wet, not ordinarily, anyway. You can make up a little as a treat or to mix a treat into, but it spoils fast.

I do not wet it. If it is wet, it can get moldy. You can obviously handle that by regular emptying and cleaning, but I don't bother.

I do occasionally let them run out. Not for long, but mine prefer the larger chunks. If I don't let them get a little hungry, that powder gets wasted. Some people have chicks that prefer the powder to the chunks. No two chickens or flocks are the same.

Chick grower is meant to be fed dry so it is best you do that. If you happen to leave wet food for to long it may grow mold . . . not the best diet for your chickens.

Thanks, everyone. I have just been filling their little feeder with it dry, but I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. Does the grower come as crumbles as well? I just asked them at Blue Seal what the next food was and this is what they gave me:)

That's all I've ever seen is grower crumbles. Is your's pellets? If so, what brand? I would much rather feed pellets than crumbles. Less waste. That's all I give my layers is pellets.

Hi, No my grower is fine flakes. It reminds me of the bran that I use to make bran mash for my horse. That was why I was confused:)
