3chickens, you could do AI with him to ensure fertility/breeding.
In regards to vaulted skulls....
I picked up a batch of chicks from a show breeder in WA. Some have vaulted skulls, some dont. The one looking most promising so far is a little black that I'm fairly certain is a pullet. She has a rather large vault, and about a week ago I went to check on them and she was acting as though she was having a neurological problem. The little birdies are still in QT from being brought home (got them before Thanksgiving), so I just separated her from the other chicks. The young roos in the bunch are fairly rowdy, and I think someone knocked her in the head.
Since she started with the issue I have been feeding her a recovery formula for birds from the vet, and have been giving her some prednisone and polyvisol without iron I had on hand. For a few days she was still having a bad time of it, seeming as though she was having intermittent seizures, but as of last night and this AM she is acting completely normal! Hallelujah!
None of the other chicks are exhibiting any issues.
The vaulted skull may be present on the birds with better crests, but wow! What a pain in the tush and just about the least sensible trait I've ever heard of! That said, I have two very non-sensible breeds (exhibition toulouse and silkies) so I'm not trying to critique other breeders...
