My run is as secure as my coop.
That said, locking them in every night would be a complete waste of my time...
If yours is not, then by all means secure them, lock them up if necessary.
Every situation will differ.
You have to be your own judge and be responsible enough to accept the consequences.
Personally, I sleep with both eyes closed...
