Although the concept of what a quilt is, is simple, the variety of techniques you can use to make it are pretty extensive. That's part of what is so great about quilting! There are a lot of different ways to do the same thing and you can pick the one YOU like. The only bad thing about that, is that it can be a little confusing to get started.
I think you're doing great! A lot of people wouldn't even try, without someone to sit right there, showing them. I know there are video clips of knitting on one of the knitting web sites and even on youtube. I wonder if there are any youtube videos of machine quilting? I think it would be good to see that, especially if you decide to use the stuff and fluff method. Paula Reid calls it the Fluff & Stuff method and sells a DVD, but I was thinking a video of anyone showing a giant quilt jammed in their machine might be helpful.
