Question re. raising quail and releasing in NJ

That sounds awesome, Wilds of Pa. I'd like my little corner of NJ to be Wilds of NJ. Will try when I get some space in my bators!

I'll just have to let a few imprint and accidentally not too attached to them as they might accidentally get away from me all at once...out in my woods, all at the right age...

Charlie,
I'm considering doing some release of bobwhites on my property, we have 7 acres of woods, surrounded by about 100 more acres of woods mixed with the same amount of farmland/grassland that eventually backs up to a large state game propagation and rejuvination area. So I think the habitat is suitable...any thoughts. I also noticed that you raise butlers. I've done some searches on bobwhite species native to PA and havent' come up with much. What's the history on Butlers?
I may be contacting you for some eggs in the future once I get this project underway. The above mentioned wooded area currently supports a resident flock of wild turkey that runs about 30 strong in the winter; they forage and roost often in our neck of the woods, guess that's what made me think of the bobwhites.
Thanks

Thanks Dan,
I too found more info on Colinus virginianus ssp. marilandicus and mexicanus. I guess I just needed to go beyond common names. I'm still in the research & decision stage (to or not to do) on this potential venture, so any information beyond what you've already provided would be appreciated.

This is not recommended by the Audubon Society that has a great quail steward. He said their chance of survival in the wild without a mom to teach them is less than 12 hours. We have 5 Bobwhites that were released by a local Kindergarten into our reservation we live off of. They came straight to our voices as they were raised with humans. They are not from wild stock and have no other quails to teach them living in the wild. If you want to support repopulation efforts, you can use your own farmland to raise them from wild pairs or give funds to support the Audubon's efforts. See these two links: http://www.njaudubon.org/SectionCon...on/NorthernBobwhiteRestorationInitiative.aspx and http://www.nj.com/south-jersey-towns/index.ssf/2017/04/federal_funding_available_to_r.html
