Hi all, thanks for any advice. I installed a fan on my LG still-air and noted last night that one of the holes with the red plugs is covered by the back plate of the fan. There is a smaller hole in the plate that lines up with that hole, but it is not as big as the red plug hole is supposed to be. I have 1 red plug in at present and the plug out at that hole. Is that okay or do I need to compensate and enlarge another hole in the top. Hope that makes sense to someone. Thanks again.

Oh thank you so much for responding. My eggs just got here!! So what did you use to cut the holes? And how do you know if you need to cover them?

The four holes I did are the size of a pencil or a screwdriver. I just leave mine open. You can use the holes to regulate your humidity. Cover them to hold it in, if you have to. Just be sure they do have oxygen during the hatch though, as that is as important as the humidity! I use a piece of tubing that I put in the holes, to add water when needed.

Well, I think I have not been adding the water frequently enough because the humidity has been running around 40%. I am trying to get everything regulated before placing my eggs in tomorrow. Do you just go on and add water every 6-8 hours or so? I will go on and make another hole now. Thanks so much for helping me.

I keep my incubating humidity around 30 - 35%. If it drops to 25%, I add. I don't want it below that. Then, during hatch (days 18 -21) I up the humidity to 60 - 65%. But again, humidity is controversial. It depends alot on the area you live, and your altitude.

Be sure to calibrate your hygrometer, as they really do vary.

1 cup of salt and 1/2 cup water mixed into a slurry. Put it in a ziplock bag. Place the hygrometer in the bag with it (but not IN the wet cup). It takes up to 24 hours. It should read 75%. If it does not, then you know how to read it ... ie add 2 degrees, or subtract 4 degrees ... whatever it takes to get the 75%.

Darn, I need to put it in right now as I need to place my eggs tomorrow.
