Question with humidity

The vent holes in my LG would take 3-4 holes for one pencil to fit into

Ok... taped all upper vents except the water tubing one, that leaves 5 lower vents open. Let's hope this works

My luck the humidity will hit 90% in 20 minutes....

Up to 87%....

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Took out sponge, left damp rag since it seems to work better anyway............

Are there any gadgets out there that will control humidity automatically?? I mean I know there are some for the pre dryers on tunnel kilns but not sure if I could justify the expense

You want to have holes in the upper and lower areas for proper air flow. Try opening 3 on top and 3 on bottom. Hot air rises, so as it rises (out the top of the bator) it pulls fresh air in through the bottom holes.

You only need two 1/2" holes per 2'x2' incubator. Be careful with the humidity too high. I used to keep the level at over 50% saturation until I started getting curled toes and splayed legs. I've let it dry out completely for a couple days at a time and have never had a deformity yet. Sponges only work if they are real sponges from the ocean with all the sand and salt removed. Grocery store/ synthetic sponges are not a good idea. Shallow pan or the bottom of a cup that you cut so that it will be shallow enough are the best ideas for humidity. Remember, you are trying to mimick natural humidity here. Chicks will hatch with near zero humidity, some agree that this will create almost all roosters, though it hasn't been proven. I have had excellent results with up and down moisture levels in my incubator with a 6 to 1 hen ratio. Golden buffs, gold laced Wyandottes, Red Rocks, White Rocks and Banties have all been well hatched and are good egg layers from my incubator

Don't tell that to the chickens who hatch eggs in humid areas like along the coast, you'll get clucked at

Surface area is surface area, doesn't matter what type it is. Sea sponges aren't always better just because they are natural, just ask anyone here that uses synthetic kitchen sponges in their bators. The washcloth is working fine for me and I'll take my chances with the 65% humidity once I can get it down there. But thanks for the input!
